Sulaiman bin al-Ashath gathered five hundred thousand Hadith narrations of the Prophet ﷺ. He selected a fraction of those for his celebrated Hadith collection ‘al-Sunnan,’ which contains over five thousand narrations.

Imam Abu Dawood himself clarified that not all of the narrations are Sahih. Yet his work remains one of the most highly regarded and relied upon Hadith collections and is one of the ‘six books,’ (al-Kutub al-Sita).

He was about 73 years old when he passed away (202 – 275H). He narrated Hadith from teachers of Imam al-Bukhari. Amongst them Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal and Ali al-Madini.
