Imam Abu al-Hasan Ali bin Abi Bakr, is often referred to as Burhan al-Deen al-Marghinani. It is even more common to see him called Sahib al-Hidayah. This is because al-Hidayah is his most renowned work, and it is one of the most broadly accepted and highly regarded works in the Hanafi Madhab.

He is a relatively early scholar in the Madhab, passing away 593 Hijri. Imam al-Marghinani is considered to be amongst the Ashab al-Tarjeeh. Meaning he is an authority in identifying the soundest opinion in the Madhab.
