A brother posted the following, is it authentic:

RasulAllah ﷺ said: ‘If they (heretics) fall ill, don’t visit them. If they die, do not attend their funeral. If they happen to meet, do not greet them, do not sit with them, do not drink with them, do not eat with them. Do not marry with them. Do not offer prayer along with them.’

In the Name of Allah Most Merciful Most Kind

Short Answer

There does not seem to be a Hadith with this particular wording. It may well be a fabrication. However, the person in question must be asked to prove it is a Hadith in this wording. If he cannot do so then he must correct his mistake and inform his audience of this serious error.

Explanation

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: It is enough of a lie for a person to narrate everything that he hears. (Sahih Muslim, Chapter 3, Prohibition of Narrating Everything One Hears).

When quoting from the beloved Prophet ﷺ we must be very cautious. The Hadith above warns against being careless with Hadith narrations. It seems the person who mentioned the narration in the question completely failed to do this. He must prove it is a Hadith or announce that he was mistaken. Remaining silent is not an option when it comes to potential fabrications against the blessed Prophet ﷺ.

Loving the Prophet ﷺ

As Muslims when we say we love the Prophet ﷺ it can never be an empty slogan. Rather it must represent a deeply experienced reality. Being protective over the Hadith of the blessed Prophet ﷺ is not only a duty in itself, but it is also an important expression of love for the Prophet ﷺ. A Muslim who loves the Prophet ﷺ cannot tolerate anything false being attributed to him ﷺ.

It is shocking to see that the same people who take no care when narrating Hadith, claim to be the greatest defenders of the beloved Prophet ﷺ. They also claim to promote the love of the Prophet ﷺ. This behavior is deeply contradictory. It is even more outrageous to see that the same people will be infuriated if someone misquotes a scholar they like. Yet they are untroubled by people who misquote the Mubarak Prophet ﷺ.

The actual Hadith

Abd al-Aziz bin Abi Hazim said he was informed from his father at Mina from Ibn Umar that the Prophet ﷺ said: The Qadariyyah are the Magians of this Ummah. If they fall ill, do not visit them. And if they die, do not attend (their funerals). (Abu Dawood, 4691).

This narration from Abu Dawood seems to be the strongest one. There are many other similar narrations in the books of Hadith. However, there does not seem to be a narration with the wording mentioned in the question above. Therefore, the person who narrated it, must prove it is a Hadith. The onus is upon the one narrating to prove his claim.

Even this Hadith in Abi Dawood is weak according to Imam al-Dhahabi. The Imam explained that there was a missing link between Abu Hazim and Ibn Umar. Such a missing link renders a Hadith weak.

I say: It is disconnected between Abu Hazim and Ibn Umar (May Allah Most High be pleased with them both). (Imam al-Dhahabi 748H, al-Muhadhab).

If the person who posted the dubious Hadith wants to revise his post and cite this Hadith instead, then he must remember the requirements of citing a weak Hadith.  Although, an argument could be made for it being Hasan Lighayrihi.

Reckless

It seems the person who posted the Hadith has been reckless. He has posted without research and due consideration. It would be incorrect to accuse him of fabricating the Hadith. However, it does seem like he has posted a baseless narration. Nevertheless, he has the opportunity to prove that this is a Hadith found in original sources and authenticated by credible scholars.

The following Hadith is applicable to our situation. Since it seems the person in question has been neglectful. He appears to have posted without verifying. Some of the great Imams of Hadith have explained why the Hadith calls such a person a liar.

The Prophet ﷺ said: Whoever narrates a Hadith about me, which is deemed a fabrication, is one of the liars. (Sahih Muslim, Muqadimah).

Al-Ashraf said: He ﷺ called him a liar because he aids the fabricator and participates with him because he spreads it (the lie). It is like someone who helps an oppressor in his tyranny. (Imam Ali al-Qari 1014H, Mirqaat al-Mafateeh).

Because that which is certainly or most likely false has been narrated about him ﷺ. So, the one who narrates something like this is a fabricator against him ﷺ. He is similar to someone who deliberately fabricates against him ﷺ. Thus, he is committing what he has forbidden from, and is one of the liars. (Imam Qadi Iyad 544H, Sharh Sahih Muslim).

In the Nass (text) above, Qadi Iyad explains that since there are fabrications attributed to our beloved Prophet ﷺ, being careless in narration will lead to spreading them. This is an incredibly important statement, since many people narrate Hadith without checking them. They do not appreciate the gravity of what they are doing.

Imam Ali al-Qari clarifies that being reckless regarding Hadith assists those who have fabricated against our Mubarak Prophet ﷺ. These are not insignificant matters that can be overlooked. Muslims must take more care with Hadith. And the individual in the question must either clarify his mistake or prove it is a Hadith.

Conclusion

Loving the Prophet ﷺ can never be relegated to a slogan without meaning. Our deep love for our blessed Prophet ﷺ dictates that we our cautious regarding attributing Hadith narrations to him.

It seems like the Hadith in the question is baseless. However, the onus is upon the individual who narrated it to prove it is a Hadith or acknowledge his error. Propagating dubious Hadith is no small matter. The magnitude of such errors must be recognised.

Muslims must request thorough referencing from those who attribute Hadith to our beloved Prophet ﷺ. We can excuse people for failing to reference thoroughly when they are speaking, but there is no excuse when writing. And there is never an excuse for promoting fabrications.

And Allah Most High Knows Best.
